COVID-19 Update 19/5/2020

As we begin to move towards a COVIDSafe Australia and restrictions are eased around the country we would like to update you with the steps being taken at NDHS to manage this situation. Our highest priority continues to be the health and safety of our patients, aged care residents and our valued healthcare workers.

Regarding accessing the hospital, operating theatre and aged care unit, we appreciate your understanding that it may take additional time to facilitate entry.  NDHS do not have extra resources to manage this additional workload and we understand it may cause a level of frustration at times however our staff are doing their to best to facilitate entry as quickly and safely as possible.

At present the following continue to  apply at NDHS:

ACCESS AND SCREENING
Anyone entering the hospital, operating theatre or aged care facility is required to have their temperature taken prior to proceeding through reception.
If you have a temperature above 37.5 degrees you will be asked to leave the facility and contact your local GP.

VISITING HOURS
Visiting hours for hospital patients continue to be limited to two visitors for a maximum of one hour during business hours. Requests for after hours or weekend visits are to be organised with the Registered Nurse in Charge by either using the doorbell or calling the hospital.

HOSPITAL ACCESS
The hospital doors are locked at 5pm each night and for the full weekend and public holiday periods. The Registered Nurse in Charge will facilitate any requests for visits to hospital patients.

TARAGO VIEWS

Tarago Views will continue to facilitate visitors in accordance with the Industry Visiting Access Code during the COVID-19 pandemic.  A full copy of this Code can be found under the “About” section on this website.

THEATRE

Several weeks ago, we recommenced limited elective theatre in line with Government guidelines.  In line with the National Cabinet decision on 15 May 2020, NDHS will be working towards increasing our levels of elective surgery over the next two months with the aim of returning to our pre-COVID capacity by the end of July 2020.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff and the community for the support and understanding during these difficult times and remind everyone of the ongoing requirements for social distancing and compliance with guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety.
