Neerim Health is a not for profit Hospital, Health Service and Aged care facility with Private Hospital status located in Neerim South, West Gippsland.

The organisation has a busy operating Theatre/day procedure unit, Sub-acute hospital beds, Aged care beds and Short-Term Restorative Care packages.

As a result of continued growth and internal changes, we are currently seeking CSSD Instrument Technicians.

The Instrument Technician works under the direction of the Theatre Nurse Unit Manager / Associate Nurse Unit Manager, undertaking work of a general nature which includes providing internal and external customers with an efficient and compliant decontamination, packaging and sterilisation service while supporting the vison, values and objectives of NH.

  Our ideal candidate will have:

Certificate 4 in Health, Sterilising Practice for Technicians or equivalent

Desirable Skills & Competencies:

  • Previous experience in a similar position
  • Previous experience within a hospital or health care environment
  • Basic understanding of relevant Australian Standards pertaining to sterilisation technology

Remuneration

Salary and conditions are in accordance with your individual employment agreement and the NH EBA. Remuneration Packaging is available in accordance with current legislation.

Neerim Health (NH) is a private not for profit entity owned by its members. It is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Reform Act (2012) and is located in the township of Neerim South with a population of 1300.
NH has a 90-year history serving the community and there is strong community support and ownership of the organisation. NH has a Board of Management elected from the local community who have a strong mix of professional skills and an active interest in the community and its development.
The organisation has a mix of services including:

  • 25 register residential aged care beds with full Accreditation achieved in April 2018
  • 8 hospital beds
  • Operating Theatre Unit performing ophthalmic, endoscopic and dental procedures
  • 10 bed surgical day procedure unit
  • Commonwealth funded Short Term Restorative Care (STRC) Packages
  • NH is registered with the Department of Health and Human Services as a private hospital
  • Provision of Meals on Wheels services

NH has the equivalent of 40 full time staff made up of approximately 90 full time, part time or casual staff. There is also a very active volunteer base.

The CSSD Instrument Technician will report to the Nurse Unit Manager.

The CSSD Instrument Technician will be required to liaise with:

Externally:           Patients and their family/carers

Internally:           Nursing staff and Visiting Medical Officers

  • Perform duties within the context of NH philosophy, values and policies and procedures
  • Acknowledge and respect the diversity in the nature of our residents, patients and clients and the many aspects of their lives – physical, psychological, spiritual and social
  • Work as per your contract of employment, relevant Award / Agreement and agreed roster
  • Read and understand all policies and procedures including all revised policies and procedural documents
  • Understand and work within the Risk / Quality Management Framework including policies, procedures, tools, templates and reports as applicable throughout the organisation
  • Work within the parameters of general legislative compliance – including but not limited to OHS laws and guidelines, Fair Work Australia Act, Aged Care Act, Privacy Act, Health Records Act
  • Follow the objectives of the strategic and operational plans as directed by the CEO

Instrument Technician will meet the following duties/requirements under the direction and supervision of the NUM.

Infection Control

  • Adherence to NH, Infection Control and Departmental policy and procedures.
  • Sort, disassemble, decontaminate, package and sterilize reusable surgical and medical equipment within AS/NZ 4187:2014, hospital procedure and manufacturer’s instructions.

Validation and Documentation

  • Accurate and appropriate documentation of validation procedures as per daily allocated role.

Event Related Sterility

  • Follow stock rotation and inventory management procedures relevant to event related sterility.
  • Storage and handling of sterile stock within AS/NZ4187:2014

Provision of Service

  • Address customer service issues courteously and promptly, within an acceptable timeframe
  • Participates in the collection of soiled equipment from, and distribution of sterile equipment to the wards and departments.
  • Complete daily responsibilities as per allocated task description
  • Communicates all service and processing issues to the NUM and also handover accurately to next rostered shift.

Safe Practice and Environment

  • Uses personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
  • Ensures disposal of soiled and waste is carried out according to Infection Control and Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines.
  • Compliance with Infection Prevention and Control requirements including Pandemic Planning and management

Occupational Health and Safety

  • Adheres to the NH Occupational Health and Safety Policies and to participate in all mandatory training identified by the employer on an annual basis.
  • Complies with the organisations code of conduct

Quality Improvement

  • Understands and participate in ongoing quality improvement activities.

Professional Development

  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development by participating in in-service education and study days where possible.

Information Management

  • Strict adherence to the NH confidentiality Policy and Privacy Act guidelines.

Confidentiality

  • Ensure that any personal, private or sensitive information obtained regarding a staff member or client remains confidential.

  • The employee is required to maintain strict confidentiality with reference to all matters pertaining to patients within the Health Service and externally. Failure to observe this requirement may be regarded as misconduct warranting termination and incurring liability to penalty pursuant to Section 141 of the Health Services Act 1988.
  • The employee is required to participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement Program to encourage excellence of care within the Health Service.
  • The employee is required to adhere to NH Code of Conduct.
